My cat got Clavamox in its eye/nose or an extra dose. Is it safe?

This is likely conjunctivitis, which is commonly seen with upper respiratory infections. The clavamox will help to keep this from getting too bad, but sometimes prescription eye ointment is needed. Wiping away the discharge with a warm cloth is good to do a few times a day. Considering the one eye is completely closed, it may be difficult for all the discharge to drain, so I recommend having it checked by the vet sometime in the next day or two. It's a good question, but rest assured the safety margin for using Zeniquin is high - this means that you are not likely to see any issues by giving Leopold an accidental extra dose tonight. I would suggest that you continue by using the Clavamox every 12hrs, and repeating the next dose of Zeniquin tomorrow evening. Clavamox can often make cats nauseous. You may want to talk to your vet about using a different antibiotic. The temperature of a cat's nose or ears can vary widely, and it doesn't often coincide with the ambient temperature. I have never diagnosed illness based on the temperature or moisture of a pet's nose! If you are concerned that Tikvichko has a low body temperature, I would recommend getting a rectal thermometer to take his temperature. Normal for a cat is 100-102.5*F

When antibiotics are ingested in toxic amounts, it can result in mild to severe signs ranging from gastrointestinal signs (e.g., drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance, discolored teeth), metabolic signs (e.g., skin lesions, liver failure, kidney failure, etc.) to central nervous system signs (e.g., tremors, seizures, death). I would not be overly concerned, although the recommended dose is 5-10mg/lb (and an 8lb cat would have consumed approx 15mg/lb) it does have a wide safety margin and overdose symptoms are very rare. I would expect some mild gastrointestinal upset and a probiotic would be helpful to reduce the impact on the natural gut balance

They are safe to use together however clavamox has a high rate of causing nausea/loss of appetite too. Of course consult with your veterinarian as I do not know what condition your little baby has and one of or both of those may be uneccesary. With all of these antibiotics I also definitely recommend a probiotic like benebac gel. Best of luck to you and the kitten!
