My cat's chin scab won't heal after fleas. What product helps?

Fleas and allergies to fleas can set-up an environment for infection. It's possible that this is complicating the recovery process. The skin will often start to heal once the fleas are gone, but it's worth treating for infection by giving a bath with a medicated cat shampoo (can get this at the pet store). I recommend discontinuing the use of the other products (except the flea control) for now, because overuse and misuse of certain products can actually delay healing or make the problem worse. For instance, I worry about the use of the coconut oil, because fungal and bacterial infections will thrive in the coconut oil. It's best to just give a bath with the medicated shampoo once every 2-3 days, until the skin starts to look normal. It's expected that it will take a month or more until the cats start to look normal again, so stick with it and they should get through this fine. Treating for fleas is not just restricted to the host, because fleas can reproduce and nest in the environment and continually cause an issue. I'm concerned the two scabs are not related. I'm concerned the scabs around her anus might represent an anal gland abscess (the area looks red and swollen). I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian today to have her glands checked. she should also wear an elizabethan collar at all times to stop any licking. Lastly, scabs and wounds should heal within 10-14 days. It sounds like the lesion on her head has been present for almost 8 weeks? That's very unusual and could represent an underlying condition. ask the veterinarian about this as well. Also, you should stop using hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide should only be used once or twice because it will damage the new cells trying to heal the lesion. Protect the area with the elizabethan collar and just monitor it. A healthy body can heal minor injuries. I hope this helps.

Hi there. In that area there are a few things that could be playing a role in that wound. Feline acne is common under the chin, a tooth root abscess, and on white cats I also worry about skin cancer. Gucci could have this lesion for a few reasons including an allergic reaction, a bacterial infection or something like ringworm (which humans can get). It's important to keep him from licking the area because this can keep it inflamed. Gucci should wear an elizabethan collar at all times. You can apply a dab of coconut oil twice daily and rub it in well. Only use the organic oil and don't let him ingest it because it can upset his tummy. Poor girl. : ( You can safely try Stridex pads along with a very thin layer of Neosporin or a topical antibiotic ointment from your local petstore. However, if it still hasn't healed well you should go back to your vet to see if another antibiotic can be tried or even consider a skin culture to find out what medication will be effective at clearing things up. If Hazel has developed a secondary skin infection from the fleas, then she may need antibiotics to resolve the infection. She could have a foreign body or infecion in that area that won't properly heal. I would have your vet look at it to ensure she doesn't need some antibiotics or even a culture of the area to ensure it isn't a resistant infection. Finally, if it won't heal, she may need that area surgically removed as I have had a similar case where we surgically removed it and sent the tissue to the lab and there a piece of grass was embedded in that tissue.
