My dog has a URI. Can my cat catch his respiratory infection?

Most upper respiratory infections are species specific, meaning that cats can't transmit them to dogs (and vice-versa) - so it's unlikely that your dog would be able to catch this infection from the kitten. But if she does, it should be easily treated with medication from your veterinarian. If Raven continues to have runny eyes, or develops squinting, redness, or other signs of a problem, I would recommend taking her to the vet for a check-up. If needed, the vet can prescribe antibiotic eye drops or oral antibiotics for her to help get things cleared up :)

If Oscar is a dog then it is very, very unlikely that he could contract a respiratory infection from Sylvester. Most upper respiratory infections in cats are caused by feline herpesvirus or calicivirus which are not contagious to dogs, however occasionally there are some bacteria that might be contagious to dogs. Ask your vet if you are concerned.

Based on the history, I am suspicious of an infectious cause and that Micah has given it to the other animals. Its extremely unusual for cats to get infections from dogs but its not impossible. There are many different organisms (bacteria and viruses) that cause respiratory infections and its possible that the antibiotic was ineffective for this particular infection or that it is a virus that needs to run its course. I would recommend another trip to the vet to have her checked out again to be on the safe side. Make sure Micah is drinking plenty of water and she is getting rest as this is good for her immune system. A fatty acid supplement will also help decrease inflammation in her nose and this may help relieve some symptoms as well.

Upper respiratory infections are very contagious and so it is very likely that your older cat caught the bug. The gulping is likely her response to drainage of mucous down the back of her throat, this is also common in people. I would recommend getting Bibi Noor seen by your vet to get on a short course of antibiotics to treat her secondary infection and hopefully get her feeling well soon! I am sorry to hear about Gingi. If she is having upper respiratory symptoms still, it would be safest to keep your kitties separate. If you are concerned about the gingivitis then I would not be concerned your new cat could spread this to your older kitty.

Poor Baby. She likely has an upper respiratory infection. A lower airway infection (pneumonia) is possible also but typically pets are much sicker and have fluid sounds from the chest if this were the case. Upper respiratory infections in dogs are not like people colds, because they generally are caused by a bacterial infection which requires a short course of antibiotics to get rid of. Therefore, it's best if you get Baby seen by your local vet to be examined and prescribed medication. I would make it a point to get her seen within the next 24 hrs if at all possible, before her condition gets any worse. Don't be tempted to give her any over be counter cough medicine, because she has, what sounds like, a productive cough (coughing up fluid and phlegm) and therefore you don't want to suppress her cough. The vet will give her the exact medication she needs to get well again. I wish Baby a full and speedy recovery!

Poor Cece, it does sound like she has an Upper respiratory tract infection. This could be viral and therefore there is not a lot we tend to prescribe in terms of medications, as the body will fight the infection in 7-10 days. You just need to make sure she is kept indoors and clean her nose/eyes regularly if getting crusty, encourage her to eat with strong smelling food, like fish for example, if she is not eating her normal diet.
