Is my new cat's URI contagious? Should I separate her from my cat?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

I adopted a 2yr old cat today that was treated for a URI. She's on another antibiotic for gingivitis. She still has some symptoms but is eating and drinking fine. I am unable to get her to the vet until Monday. I also have a healthy 5yr old cat. Should I keep them separated? I was told that it's not contagious but I am concerned that it is.

I am sorry to hear about Gingi. If she is having upper respiratory symptoms still, it would be safest to keep your kitties separate. If you are concerned about the gingivitis then I would not be concerned your new cat could spread this to your older kitty.
