My cat gets car sick, vomits, and poops. How can I help him travel?

Hello. There is a medication called Cerenia that is designed specifically for motion sickness. In addition, a very small dose of acepromazine may calm your pet for the duration of the trip. Gabapentin can cause sedation in some cats but not all. You can try a dose that your vet prescribed to see if it helps with a short car trip around the block. If it doesn't work, I would talk to your vet about a different medication, possibly alprazolam and also use Cerenia, which prevents nausea often associated with motion sickness in these kitties.

Hello, sorry to hear about Nyx. Yes, cats can get motion sickness and will vomit. Car rides may also be very stressful for kittens and stress itself may make them nauseous. For now, you can watch him at home for any more vomiting. If Nyx continues to vomit then you should have him evaluated by your veterinarian. If Nyx is otherwise acting like his normal self, then he should be ok to be monitored at home. Hope this helps.

It's not uncommon for cats to vomit during travel. However with the vomiting continuing and the decrease in appetite I would be concerned this is more than car/motion sickness. Izzy should be seen by his veterinarian as he could have an infection, inflammation of his pancreas or liver, a parasite and/or even a foreign body causing his continued vomiting.

This is a prescription drug so he will have to get it through his veterinarian. It's great for motion sickness, nausea, and vomiting. This can be normal during times of stress. c Car rides and vet visits can be stressful. Give Felix some time to settle down when you get home. Allow small amounts of water. He should be fine in a couple hours. You can use a pheromone product, such as Feliway spray, to decrease anxiety. Rescue Remedy for Pets may also work. Discuss anti nausea medications for motion sickness as well as anti anxiety medication with your veterinarian to prevent future episodes.

You can try giving Dramamine which is available over the counter, however it is not specifically labeled to use in dogs, and it is not effective for all dogs.
