My cat can't walk, rear legs injured. How to comfort him until vet?

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for him at home except keep him calm, warm, and quiet. Do not give him any human medications, as many are toxic to cats and can be fatal if given. He needs veterinary attention immediately, and there is usually a vet on call after hours for emergencies. The information to reach a vet on call is usually found on the clinic's answering machine or website. If transportation is an issue, I would call a friend to drive you or a cab to take you. Rest is always the best way to resolve an injury. You can put him in a large dog kennel or small bathroom so he can jump around. Also a warm compress for 10-15 mins every 4-6 hours. Kisses for Shadow!

Poor Tyr! My cat is also named Tyr! You can't rule out his leg being broken without an x-ray. He is in a lot of pain if he won't walk on the leg, and unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. You need to take him into a vet today to get this diagnosed and treated. I strongly urge you to take him into a vet now. Best of luck.

I would stop giving Vaalan food now because he likely will need to be sedated in order to treat his wounds as well as x-rays for his back. Give him plenty of water, keep him warm and quiet. Do not late him outdoors. Take him into a vet asap, as this is a medical emergency. Best of luck.

Hi and thanks for posting. If you feel Jasper is experiencing pain in one of his legs, the best thing to do would be to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. Your vet will need to do an exam and may recommend taking x-rays to check for fractures or other injuries to the legs so he can be appropriately treated.

Poor Raj! I do think taking him to the vet in the morning is a good idea. I would keep him quiet for tonight, maybe in a crate if possible. Keep him indoors if he's allowed outdoors, and have him in a crate or a small room. Try to prevent him from running and jumping as much as possible. Please do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. The vet can provide him with some safe pain relief.

Poor CJ! It sounds like he is in pain if he's walking slower, struggling to lay down and get up, and cannot bend to clean himself. I would be concerned that he has a problem with his neck or back. It possible he was injured. My advice is to rest him tonight, and take him into a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing his pain, and can treat him for it.
