Why is my cat suddenly limping on her hind leg with a high fever?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 7.7 lbs

Cat has a 104.1 temp and a limp on the left hind leg. Did not see any injury when to bed find and woke up with the limp. Indoor only cat and only cat no other pets. is eating but not like before and is drinking water fine.

Hello and thank you very much for your question. With the history that you were giving me, I worried that there may be a puncture wound or abscess formation on the left rear leg. Another possibility would be that we have hurt our leg somehow and the pain associated has caused the temperature to rise. Nevertheless, with a temperature that high, your pet needs to see the veterinarian as soon as possible to get a correct diagnosis and treatment started.

If there were not a fever associated, I would tell you to wait for 24 to 48 hours with complete rest of the cat with no movement. But because of the fever, you do need to see a veterinarian. Thanks a lot for your question. Have a good day.

My kitten is limping and has a fever. Can a foot injury cause this?

I am sorry to hear kohl is not feeling well. Typically a broken foot/bone will not cause a fever. I think the veterinarian you saw was thinking kohl could have hemobartenella. It is a parasite carried by fleas that destroys red blood cells and can cause inflammation of the mouth. I would recommend taking kohl back to the vet to re check his temperature and check his foot, now that he is limping. At home I would make sure kohl is eating and drinking and give any medications the veterinarian prescribed.

The limp could be caused by a number of things including injury to the leg, such as a break or sprain, wound or infection from a bite or scratch, or muscle or nerve damage. Until you can get to the vet, limit all activity to prevent further injury to the limb, and try to entice eating by warming up some wet food or adding some warmed boiled chicken to your cat's food.
