Is brown pee normal for a cat with fatty liver on Royal Canin Hepatic?

Good evening. It must be hard seeing Relic sick. Although it can be normal for cats with cholangiohepatitis to have darker yellow to orangish urine, if this is a change for her since being prescribed her medications, it is probably best to consider a recheck. Some important things to consider on "how soon" to recheck is if Relic is eating and drinking on her own (preferably normal quantities) - if she is not, I would recommend a recheck within the next 24 hours if possible. Is she vomiting? If so, a recheck within the next 24 hours is also strongly advised. I recommend to call your veterinarian and let them know what you are seeing at home. The brown urine is very concerning for her liver not working properly. It could also indicate something like a bladder infection or irritation to the lining of the bladder. I recommend to get this examined right away. The brown discoloration on her skin could be related to irritation of the skin or excessive licking of the area. Carefully examine the skin underneath the brown area. It should be pale white. If it is a red or flaky, it could indicate an underlying skin infection. Have the veterinarian examine her skin as well. I hope this helps and best of luck.

Hello, sorry to hear about Mystique. This could be early evidence of a urinary tract infection which may require medications. Female cats are more likely to get urinary tract infections and can show signs such as urinating outside of the litter box, drinking excessive water, urinating more frequently, having a decreased appetite, or even vomiting and having diarrhea. I would have Mystique evaluated by a veterinarian if these abnormal urinations continue or if she develops any of the other symptoms described above. Hope this helps and best of luck.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Daisy! Daisy could have a urinary tract infection, but most animals do not lose weight with that. I recommend that you take her to your Vet first thing tomorrow. They should get blood work to check her kidney, liver and blood sugar and test her urine for infection or crystals. They may want to take a belly X-ray to check for bladder stones. Sometimes the urine can be discolored if they have bilirubin in the urine. Cats that are jaundiced are very sick. Check the whites of her eyes, her ears and that thin area of hair above the eyes. If it looks yellow then she should see a vet today. i wish you the best and a speedy recovery for Daisy

Tiger may have a urinary tract infection or other issue causing dehydration and darker colored urine. I'd recommend having her examined by a veterinarian and also having a urine sample checked out. If necessary she can be given fluids as an injection to rehydrate her and be prescribed antibiotics to treat any infection that may be present. You can try offering her an all canned food diet to try to maintain her hydration. However, I do think she should be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. It is unlikely that diet alone is the cause of significant decrease to liver function. I would agree that Royal Canin and Hill's are not very different in terms of dietary quality. I feel that starting on a liver diet at this point based on one blood test is very premature and that further diagnostics are likely warranted. Some possible causes of increased liver values including endocrine conditions, liver shunts, hepatitis, bile duct / gall bladder issues, liver / gall bladder tumors, or fatty liver disease. Depending on the nature and magnitude of the elevation, it may be insignificant as well if Maki's findings were not coupled with any clinical signs of illness. Some additional diagnostic testing to look into things more would be additional more specific blood work, radiographs, and ultrasound. Rather than dietary change, there are more target liver supplements. One that comes to mind is called Denamarin. There is a feline formulation available that would work fine. Hope this helps.
