My cat has a broken tick with the head stuck. Should I go to vet?

YEs this is quite likely a tick bite reaction and there may be part of the tick still there causing irritation. Bathing with warm saline soaked cotton wool will help to keep the area clean if she allows you, monitor closely for increasing redness, pain, lameness or fever which may indicate a widespread infection which would require additional treatment. I recommend using a tick prevention such as bravecto every 3months to prevent further incidents

Ticks can be prevented with only 1 preventative that I am aware of on he market right now, and hat product is called Bravecto for cats. Here is a website link with more information. https://us.bravecto.com/for-cats.aspx But to rid the ticks that are on him currently, and also to treat for his other conditions (likely an upper respiratory infection and possible tick borne disease) I highly recommend taking him in to your vet for a proper exam and possible tests to make sure he didn’t get some infection from the ticks. I would be concerned that it may not be safe to attempt to remove this on your own, especially since your cat is a bit feisty ;) Depending on how deeply it is stuck, it may be painful for your cat to try and remove it, and you could easily be bitten badly in the process. I would really recommend taking him to the vet and allowing them to remove it instead - the veterinary clinic has trained staff who can safely restrain him without being injured, or they can sedate him if needed to get a better look at what is going on and remove the head without causing pain or additional damage in the process.

This wound needs immediate attention from a vet as it is fairly large. If it is treated quickly before infection sets in it may simply be a case of a few skin staples. If the wound is older the cat will likely need an anaesthetic to fix the wound properly and antibiotics. Your dad has a responsibility as a pet owner to get her appropriate treatment.
