My cat has a detached claw stuck in his leg after a fight. Vet or DIY?

Anything you apply will likely be licked off and ingested. This could further complicate his condition. If a vet visit is not possible now, you can try soaking the paw in a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution twice daily. Dry it thoroughly afterwards. An e-collar (cone) is your best bet at preventing licking which could delay healing. If this doesn't work, Thor will need to be seen by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics to resolve any infection and pain medication to manage discomfort. Do not medicate him at home without the advice of your veterinarian.

Is it possible that Mickey got in a fight with something? I can't tell from the photo's if the nail is actually broken or not. They do have an outter cuticle that can shed but the nail is still fine and intact. Examine the 'quik' of the nail (that's the pinkish area at the base of the nail). If the break is through that area, if you see blood or redness around the base of the nail, have Mickey examined by the veterinarian. Clean off his paws as best he will let you. Check him all over for any bite wounds and have him examined if any area found. You may also just have him examined to be safe. It does look like there is a bit of infection in the area which needs to be treated. You could bathe Rocky's foot in lukewarm salty water and then dry it up afterwards. You boil a couple of mugs of water and then add 2 tablespoons of salt, stir it and then leave it to cool down, once lukewarm bathe the paw. You can do this twice a day and it should help with the infection, however it is likely that Rocky needs to claw to be pulled out and the area cleaned at the vets with antibiotics administration.

It looks like your cat’s toenail has been sheared off, probably from an injury, fight or being hit by a car. My best recommendation is to take your car to the vet where they will be able to fully clean the area around the nail, trim the nails if necessary, and give your cat an antibiotic and pain medication if needed. Oh goodness, that looks like a deep infection. It could be bacterial or fungal, but I suspect more likely bacterial. He needs to see a veterinarian for an examination and treatment plan. However, in the meantime if he will allow you to soak his foot in warm water and Epsom salts that may be soothing and beneficial. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. If it's infected, it's likely painful to Tiger and she may need to be sedated in order to cut it safely. Unfortunately, there are no OTC sedatives for cats. In addition, an infection requires antibiotics to treat, which can only be gotten from a vet. In this case, I'd advise you to make her an appointment with her vet to have this treated. Best of luck.

Poor Claws! I don't think you should let that heal without treatment and should take him to a vet. Your vet can clean the wound and then suture it so it heals properly. He will also need an antibiotic to prevent infection.
