What is this firm, red bump on my kitten? Could it be a tick?

Thank you for providing a picture and for helping this start cat out! It is difficult to say based on the picture of it is a tick or perhaps even an ulcerated skin growth. For this reason I would be hesitant about trying to use a tick removing device. The risk of bleeding or infection could be high if the lesion is in fact not a tick. You could try a warm water bath over the lesion to see if you can visualise the area in greater detail and repost a picture. YEs this is quite likely a tick bite reaction and there may be part of the tick still there causing irritation. Bathing with warm saline soaked cotton wool will help to keep the area clean if she allows you, monitor closely for increasing redness, pain, lameness or fever which may indicate a widespread infection which would require additional treatment. I recommend using a tick prevention such as bravecto every 3months to prevent further incidents

This lump is likely a local inflammatory response that is sort of like an allergic reaciton. As long as it doesn't spread, becomes painful or causes a fever then I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Apply topical Neosporin if you wish twice a day until healed. Ticks take more than 48 hrs of attachment or transmit disease.

This looks like an engorged tick. You can look with a magnifying glass to see if you see legs at the area of attachment. Take tweezers at the place it’s attached at the skin to firmly pull back to remove it. Then clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide and apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. He may have a scab or sore in that area for several days after removing the tick. I use a Seresto collar on my barn cat to prevent fleas and ticks. You can purchase one at PetCo. Dog tick products are toxic to cats so please read labels very carefully before applying any product on your cat. That looks like a tick. I suggest you remove it or have it removed by someone else. Make sure you check the rest of his body for any others. If he goes outdoors you need to be sure to use a flea/tick prevention on him EVERY month. This is likely a small bug bite or an inflammatory reaction to some type of trauma (puncture, scratch, abrasion) to the skin. You can try cleaning it with a small amount of Betadine diluted 50:50with warm water, letting it air dry, and then applying a thin layer of Neosporin to the area twice a day to see if this can start to heal over the next few days.. Also an e-collar purchased from your local pet store can be placed on Simba to prevent her from scratching this area and causing more irritation as well as delaying the healing process. If this doesn't help then its best to see your vet to have this area investigated closely and in person. The vet may also want to shave the hair around it to get a better view and prescribe topical pet friendly antibiotics to help this heal. From the photos, those look more like teats. Check the bumps to see if they are in pairs. Cats typically have 8-10 sets of teats (even the males). Use your flea comb to check for fleas.
