Why is my cat's rear bloody and losing fur after giving birth?

Good on you for taking Trouble into the vet when you noticed she was having problems! It is normal to have some bleeding after giving birth, but it does sound like her bum is irritating her if she is scooting and licking at it. I'm also concerned that she is very thirsty and lethargic, as these can be signs of an infection. I would monitor Trouble for now, and if she is still acting like this in the morning, I would have her seen by the vet for a health check.

If you are sure it is coming from her anus, but she's otherwise acting normally, and the stools are formed and normal but there's a little blood from her anus afterwards, you could try adding a fiber and probiotic dietary supplement, this can help decrease inflammation in the colon. Something like this: If you aren't seeing any improvement, if her stools are soft or liquid or there is blood routinely present IN the stool, if she is vomiting, or the blood is coming from her vuvla, not her anus, have her evaluated by your vet. Talk to your vet about a rectal exam; we don't routinely do this in cats, but if her anal glands are bleeding or she has a growth or mass in her rectum, a rectal exam would be needed for evaluate for that. A small amount of reddish/brown discharge is normal but frank red blood may indicate internal bleeding. Check her gums to make sure she isn't pale - indicating anemia. The blood may indicate postpartum hemorrhage, which is an emergency, and she should be assessed by a veterinarian right away. Retained placenta/kittens would appear as discolored/odorous discharge, fever, and poor doing of the mother. Either way, I would highly recommend she be examined by a vet.

I am sorry for the delay in answering your question. I can’t say for sure what that is based on the picture, but I suspect she’s got an infection in the skin of that area. Keep it clean with warm clean water and you can use some dilute Betadine (iodine) once a day as well. If it’s not getting better, take her to a vet to be evaluated and to further advise you. She may have an anal sac abscess, or she could have a little bit of colitis and she just hasn’t had a bowel movement for you to see the full effect of what is going on. Pets with profuse bleeding from the rectum and/or vomiting blood need to be examined by the veterinarian quickly. This bleeding can indicate serious conditions like a ruptured tumor or hollow organ, severe parasites, liver failure or poisoning. Jasmine needs to be examined by the veterinarian quickly. This is not normal and could be a sign of urinary issues or trauma. If she has very recently been with the mother then neonatal isoerythrolysis would be another possibility but if you have had her more than a few days this would not be a possibility. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her to determine what might be going on.
