Why does my cat have bleeding sores around her anus after kittens?

I would try not to loosen the scab when cleaning it. maybe just spray the area with water and not wipe. Continuing to remove the scab will not allow it to heal. Apply a triple antibiotic ointment to the area in a thin layer and use an Elizabethan collar (E-collar) to prevent Marley from licking the ointment off. With time, preventing him from licking it and not loosening the scab the area should heal. If he had or is having diarrhea the swelling should improve over time. That dark discoloration implies that top skin no longer has blood supply and it is not healthy tissue. This is likely an abscess from an injury or previous bite wound. Typically they can heal on their own, but the bacteria get trapped and cause this. She will need to see a vet for further treatment as that spot may have to be surgically removed and the area cleaned and flushed out. Antibiotics need to be given to maintain control of the infection so it can heal. These areas are very painful so any touching or straining is not recommend.

She may have an anal sac abscess, or she could have a little bit of colitis and she just hasn’t had a bowel movement for you to see the full effect of what is going on. If you are sure it is coming from her anus, but she's otherwise acting normally, and the stools are formed and normal but there's a little blood from her anus afterwards, you could try adding a fiber and probiotic dietary supplement, this can help decrease inflammation in the colon. Something like this: If you aren't seeing any improvement, if her stools are soft or liquid or there is blood routinely present IN the stool, if she is vomiting, or the blood is coming from her vuvla, not her anus, have her evaluated by your vet. Talk to your vet about a rectal exam; we don't routinely do this in cats, but if her anal glands are bleeding or she has a growth or mass in her rectum, a rectal exam would be needed for evaluate for that. Poor Violet. It is hard to say exactly what it is without looking at her. She could have a wound, be in heat (less likely with that much blood), have an infected anal gland, or even a mass in her rectum. Your vet really needs to look at her so they can determine exactly where the blood is coming from and make sure she doesn’t need stitches or other treatment. They can get her started on the proper antibiotics that will be safe for the kittens if they are still nursing. I hope this helps.

These sound like wounds from being in a bad fight with another cat. It’s best to have these treated by your veterinarian if you can. In the meantime clean each wound with hydrogen peroxide and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on them. I’m concerned about the ones around his anus. There may be a tear in the rectum that may be very serious and need a veterinary exam to determine if the feces are coming out the wound. If so this could cause more infection and may need to be stitched closed. Antibiotics will help these wounds heal more quickly also. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It appears Precious may have sustained an abscess, probably from a fight with another cat. The abscess ruptured, & Precious has been licking the area to keep it clean. Her sandpaper tongue can actually cause more trauma to the area. You can clean the area with a little warm water & a disinfectant such as Betadine, & you may need to put an elizabethean collar on her to stop the licking. These type wounds do not always need antibiotics, but it would not be a bad idea to let your vet have a look at it just to make sure . Hope she well very soon.
