My cat has black spots on her lips. Are they blackheads? What to do?

Hi there. It looks like Duchess may have comedomes, which are basically black heads. This is typically caused by blocked pores. I would try using an acne pad to clean the spot and see if it clears up. I would do this daily. If you don't see resolution after 5 days, I'd have your vet examine her. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Black pigment or Lentigo are common developments in the mouth of cats as they age. More so in orange cats. That is what I think your last picture shows. The middle picture I can't tell if it is pigment or just some drool that had food in it that dried on the fur. It isn't uncommon to have dark crust at the nose openings. Some cats can have that and not be sick or if they are recovering from an upper respiratory tract infection. If Aphrodite is acting normal and not sneezing excessively I do not think she needs veterinary care. Have a good day!

Hello, and thank you for your question. The black spots look suspicious for chin acne, which is common in cats. It is not a bug at all, but in fact sebaceous secretions that plug up the hair follicles on the cat's chin. These can become infected, so the best thing to do would be to take Little to the vet to see if she needs antibiotics. For mild cases of chin acne, however, you can try wiping the area twice a day with hydrogen peroxide. This may help to open up the hair follicles and prevent them from getting clogged up again. Other possibilities for the chin issue may be infection, or tumours. Again, it would be best to get this checked out by a vet eventually to confirm the diagnosis. Hello. These look like comedones, similar to black heads in people. Do not squeeze as this could cause an infection. Try & locate a benzoyl peroxide based shampoo ( pet or human ) & gently wash the area. Try to leave the shapoo on for 5-10 minutes & do not let Simba lick the soap. Rinse & dry him. Based on the photo this could be little blackheads (not common) or it could be hyperpigmentation areas which is caused by chronic inflammation. NO worries though, unless they are causing irritation or excessive scratching, which it looks like they aren't, then you don't need to treat this at all. Best wishes with your kitty Bean. Take care.
