My cat has a black bump below its ear. What is it and should I pop it?

Please understand that it's impossible to say what this lesion is with 100% certainty without examining cells from this lesion microscopically. With that said, Tigra's lesion looks as though it could be a cyst. Most cysts are benign lesions. Many rupture and some refill at a later date, but they won't go away completely on their own. It would be best to have Tigra examined by her vet within the next month or so, or sooner if it's changing dramatically or bothering her. Until her appointment, keep a close eye on it for changes, but don't worry about applying any topical medications.

Lesions like that can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, a mass/tumour, or a combination of the above. I recommend making an appointment to have Pookie seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the lesions you’ve noticed and to make sure they are treated appropriately. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine if there is an infection and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment. In the meantime, you can bathe Pookie in hypoallergenic shampoo for dogs to clean the area, and put an e-collar (cone) on Pookie to help reduce the risk of scratching at the area, but this will likely not resolve the lesions.I do not recommend pulling it out, as this could lead to injury and/or infection.

With a clean ear canal, the most common cause of tiny bumps on the ear itself is related to hypersensitivity reactions from insect bites. The inflamed and sore lesion in front of Teak's left ear is most likely due to self-trauma from him scratching. The concern is that this skin may be infected from the excessive scratching. Your best bet is to take Teak to his vet for an exam because he may need a course of antibiotics and antihistamines to manage this issue. Be sure that Teak is receiving a high quality flea preventative (such as Advantage or Revolution) monthly because flea bites can also cause bumps on the ears. I hope that all goes well!

Lesions above the eyes can be the result of scratching due to itchy ears from an infection. Cats can be private and she may scratch while she is alone. That is very oddly discolored gunk for sure. I would certainly clip (if you're able) around the area to see if it looks infected or can be kept clean at home (clean washcloth, Elizabethan collar to prevent pawing at or licking it, keeping the area trimmed and dry). If Gremlin won't let you look at it or clean it properly, more discharge is coming from it, or it's very large/rapidly changing in size, a vet visit is a good idea. They can safely clip back any hair to make sure there aren't other pockets of infection, can clean the area, and may suggest taking samples if they suspect something more than a clogged pore or minor abscess.

This looks like it could be a scab or potentially feline acne. Feline acne can be related to using a plastic or dirty food bowl so you may want to switch to glass or ceramic if you have a plastic bowl. It does not typically require treatment and does not bother the cat. If this lesion is getting bigger, if you notice redness or discharge or if it seems to be bothering Lydia I would recommend having your vet examine it.
