My cat has a big belly and makes vibrating sounds. Pregnant or sick?

Poor Frida Katlo! It could be that she is experiencing some stomach pain, such as from an illness, that is causing her to be more vocal and have her stomach tremble. She could also have a systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain, but I would monitor her for now. Should she continue to have these symptoms in 24-48 hours, or she stops eating, drinking, becomes lethargic, or starts vomiting and having diarrhea, I would have Frida seen by a vet.

This could be a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. With a pyometra, the uterus fills with pus, and that can cause the belly to get big. Have Peekaboo seen by a vet now.

She very well may be pregnant. Her belly does look abnormally big there. Watch for signs of pregnancy such as mammary gland engorgement, continued weight gain, increase in appetite. Also you can have her seen by your vet for an exam to check for fetal heartbeats or to identify the fetal skulls, via radiograph (as early as 45 days gestation). If she is suspected to be pregnant then it's also best to feed her kitten food which is going to satisfy her high calorie requirements and ensure she makes a good supply of milk for her kittens. Hello, it is difficult to determine if Medenka is pregnant or if she has an additional disease. She could be pregnant based on those signs, however, cats usually do not get very big until they are towards the end of their pregnancy. I would recommend that you continue to monitor her as long as she is eating and drinking ok. If you note that she stops eating, drinking, develops any vomiting, or soft stools then she may have something else and would benefit from being evaluated by a veterinarian. If your local veterinarian does not treat cats, he may know some other veterinarian who does and would ask for his recommendation to someone else. Hi and thank you for your post. A severe roundworm or tapeworm infection could be the cause of the enlarged belly and this may also explain why Millie is hungry all the time. I would have a fecal test run on her to test for intestinal parasites first. I would be concerned the enlarged belly may be due to a tumor or fluid in the abdomen and may want to do an ultrasound to be sure this wasn't the case. I hope this helps! Best of luck to you!

If the kittens were dead, then she would be very ill by now. There may be many reasons for an extended abdomen in a feral cat. She could have worms and should be wormed, or, she could be suffering from feline infectious peritonitis. or have a large tumor in her abdomen., If you can touch her and maybe catch her, if would be a good idea to take her to a vet for an exam, worming and vaccination. Your vet can determine whether she is pregnant or what other problem may be causing this.
