Is my older cat pregnant or sick? Her belly is growing and she's acting odd.

"Mama" is a very pretty girl! :) I agree that her abdomen definitely looks enlarged. It's possible that she could be pregnant, but the enlarged belly could also be caused by something else such as an abdominal tumor, heart or liver disease, or FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). Cats are only pregnant for 64 days on average, so if her belly has been swollen like this for more than a few weeks or so, I would be very concerned that something else is wrong. The best way to find out would be to take her to the vet for an exam - he/she can palpate her abdomen and may also recommend x-rays or ultrasound to help determine for sure what's going on.

She very well may be pregnant. Her belly does look abnormally big there. Watch for signs of pregnancy such as mammary gland engorgement, continued weight gain, increase in appetite. Also you can have her seen by your vet for an exam to check for fetal heartbeats or to identify the fetal skulls, via radiograph (as early as 45 days gestation). If she is suspected to be pregnant then it's also best to feed her kitten food which is going to satisfy her high calorie requirements and ensure she makes a good supply of milk for her kittens. At 28 days the kittens can be seen on ultrasound and after 45 days they can be seen on an X-ray. Vetco doesn't offer blood work or X-rays so you would have to see your regular veterinarian. If Rosey doesn't have access to the outdoors and other intact male cats I do urge you to have her examined. If she is not pregnant she could have worms or abnormal fluid in her belly from something like FIP. I hope this helps and I wish you and Rosey the best!

Mia does look like her abdomen is mildly distended, which may be due to pregnancy, or may be secondary to another underlying issue (fluid accumulation, etc.). If she is pregnant and her expected due date is in 2-3 weeks, an xray can verify pregnancy, as well as count how many kittens (if any) she is going to have (and sometimes kittens can be felt on physical examination). I would recommend having her evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if she is pregnant or if she has another underlying issue that needs to be addressed. Good luck!

The signs you are describing certainly could be consistent with pregnancy, but Mia could also be suffering from a false pregnancy. This is when a cat shows the signs of being pregnant, but actually is not. The only way to know for sure if she is pregnant or not is to have her seen by a vet. Yes it is possible for a cat to get pregnant at the age of 6 months, sometimes even at 4 months. Her nipples are indeed very big and this could point to a pregnancy. If she is gaining circumference and has been for a while, and if she had access to outside when she was in heat, then it is very likely she met a tomcat. You can have her checked by your vet (xrays or ultrasound) to check for pregnancy and also for the number of kittens, which will help determine when she is done giving birth.

7 months although not ideal is not uncommon for kittens to be pregnant and complications are quite rare, I would recommend you arrange a full check up with your vet to confirm she is pregnant and the bloating is not caused by any other issue and to check she is in generally good health before the delivery. I recommend restricting her to indoors and ideally to a quiet room with no through traffic so she can settle in and become comfortable before she has the kittens as the weather is much too cold in the UK now for kittens to be born outside. It is worthwhile feeding kitten food in the last 2 weeks (once milk is developing) to increase calorie intake and energy levels
