Why does my cat have spots on her belly? Is it a skin condition or allergies?

Poor girl. I can see a tiny area there that is red, but nothing more in detail can be made from the photo. This could be eosinophlic plaques, if they are slightly raised areas (plaques) and are itchy. The treatment for this would be steroids prescribed by your vet, since the cause would be an immune medicated response. Other possibilities here would be a fungal infection or severe bacterial infection. Additional skin testing may be needed by your vet, so its best to take Mynxy in to be seen. I recommend to have her examined. This spots may not be related to the diet and they could actually be something like ringworm which can spread to humans. if the lesions become a chronic issue, your best option to rule out food allergy is to feed a hydrolyzed protein diet and conduct a proper food trial. The areas in the picture look quite ulcerated, probably from the excessive licking. Possible causes for licking include from itching, which can happen with fleas, mites, ringworm, allergies, bacterial infection, among others. Sometimes cats will overgroom themselves (called fur mowing) and cause damage to the skin, which hurts and so they keep licking and just make it worse! Here is a helpful article on fur mowing. I am sorry to hear about Jack! I would be concerned these could be a bacterial or fungal infection of the skin, and possibly a condition in cats called eosinophilic plaques or eosinophilic granuloma syndrome, which can be incited due to an allergy and usually resolves with steroid treatment. I would recommend bringing Jack in to his vet for an examination of the area.

Those look like pretty inflamed lesions. There are a few things that come to mind. Cats can get an autoimmune condition called eosinophilic granuloma that requires steroids for treatment and maybe antibiotics to control secondary infections. Check the house and make sure there's no possibility should could have touched something very hot or gotten into anything that could cause a chemical burn. Lastly, fleas and ringworm can be brought in on your shoes/clothing although this would be an abnormal presentation. Rarely, pets can get skin cancer that looks similar to this. I recommend to have Shadow checked out by her veterinarian since this is a mystery and she has two lesions. It's better to be safe. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics).
