Why did my cat hit her daughter after I hurt her during nail trim?

Sometimes cats and dogs can have personality changes like this especially if she had a bad experience with with restraint, pain or something else fearful happening while she had a nail trim (ie a car back firing while she had the nails cut). It is possible that she may have some pain in that foot that she did not show the veterinarian. Cats can get a epinephrine rush when they go to the vet and they may not show pain at that time. Watch her very closely for limping on that paw. You can try to create a positive association again by having her look at the trimmers and then get treats. Then have the trimmers touch her and get treats. Then cut one nail and get treats. Build up from there. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Many cats do not like their nails clipped, and they can punish the owner by peeing on things as well as hissing. Cats really like to use their urine to punish owners. My brother had a girlfriend our old cat HATED, and she would pee in shoes and on his bag whenever he came home from being out with her! They can be vindictive. This is to say you didn't necessarily do anything wrong by not doing the intro process, but given she is now a little off with your husband, I think it would be a good idea to try now. The reason is that cat scratches can be quite dangerous to a child not just because of the physical trauma but because of the possible infections that can be transmitted that are usually more marked in children. Hello. This could be a behavioral issue, or a behavioral issue plus paronychia ( skin infection around the nail/claws ). Even though you do not see anything unusual, a veterinarian can examine the skin, do a skin impression to see if there is a population of bacteria or yeast organisms present around the nail beds. An appropriate treatment can then be started. Often, this could also be an indication, & the only evidence of, an allergy. Allergies can come from the food or the environment & can be challenging to distinguish in cats with mild symptoms. So it is very helpful to get professional help with this. You may have groomed a spot where he was painful or maybe used the brush too hard in an area would be one possibility. Another is that he was just telling you he didn't want to be groomed. Some cats can be absolutely fine and then all of a sudden flip a switch and they will attack for no apparent reason. I would keep an eye on Alfie and if this behavior continues, take him in to be examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Flour is a great way to stop a quick from bleeding. Unfortunately, I've had to use that trick myself to get a quick to stop bleeding. When we hit the quick when trimming nails, the biggest problems are that it bleeds and it hurts. That blood can get underneath the layers of the nail (similar to when we have bleeding under our nails) which is probably why it is red. That may change to purple and look bruised in the next couple of days, but it will heal. The other thing you need to make sure when trimming Mona's nails in the future that you use treats or verbal praise to make sure she is comfortable for nail trims. Most kittens are pretty forgiving for nail trims, so don't worry about it, but make sure future nail trims are good experiences, so she doesn't start to dislike them. Congrats on your new kitten!
