My cat ate a peace lily and is sick. What should I do immediately?

After a couple days, there is no sense in taking him to the vet unless he is acting sick. Fortunately, Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) toxicity isn’t as great as that of other types of lilies, including Easter lily and Asiatic lilies. The Peace lily, isn’t a true lily, so it doesn’t cause damage to the kidneys and liver like the other lillies do.

Unfortunately, the lily plant is one of the most toxic houseplants for cats, and eating as little as two or three leaves is enough to cause liver failure. If left untreated, it can be fatal, and Callie has to see a vet right away. I would call a friend to see if they could come watch your baby, and take her into a vet now. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. I'm sorry to hear that Lily has been feeling so poorly today. As Dr. Melanie mentioned, lethargy and a loss of appetite can be due to many underlying health conditions. Since she seems to prefer laying down, it's also possible that she's experiencing some degree of pain or discomfort. Some of these possible conditions include pancreatitis, infectious diseases (FIV, feline leukemia, FIP, etc.), constipation, kidney disease, liver disease, toxin exposure (did she eat a plant, medication or something else she shouldn't have?), or many other conditions. The fact that she hasn't been using the litter box normally might be a sign that she is dehydrated, even though she's drinking water when it's placed in front of her. At this point, it would be best to take Lily to her vet fairly urgently for evaluation. Your vet will need to examine her and will likely recommend some diagnostic testing, which may include blood work, an ultrasound or x-rays, to get to the bottom of this issue. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Louie! Unfortunately, EVERY part of the Lily is very toxic and deadly to cats. It causes acute kidney failure. Time is of the essence and I urge you to take Louie to an open Veterinary Emergency hospital for care. It is not wise to wait until tomorrow because sadly it could be too late to reverse the damage to his kidneys. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Frankie. I still recommend having him evaluated by his veterinarian. It would be a good idea to have blood work performed to ensure that he has not sustained any kidney damage. Most of the time, damage to the kidneys occurs by 72 hours after the exposure. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Prince! From your pictures his eyes are a bit more dilated than normal. I am worried about your description of his symptoms. Has he been urinating? How old is he? It is possible that the old treats have caused an upset stop but it is probably a bit unlikely. I highly recommend having him seen today when your Vet opens, especially if you haven't seen him urinate since he started getting sick. Not being able to urinate for male cats is an emergency. Other possibilities are: viral or bacterial infection, toxin ingestion or he ate something causing a blockage. If he is old I would worry about kidney or liver disease and cancer. I would be very concerned that he ate some of the plant or has an intestinal/stomach blockage. Your cat needs to get checked out by a veterinarian and potentially blood tests and/or X-rays done as some plants can cause kidney failure or liver issues.
