My cat ate a lily and is foaming. What do I do for lily poisoning?

Time is of the essence and I urge you to take Louie to an open Veterinary Emergency hospital for care. Unfortunately the daylily is toxic to cats, and clinical signs usually occur between 6-12 hours after exposure. Watch out for lethargy, increased drinking, increased urination, racing heart beat, increased heart rate, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you see any of those signs, rush Dewey into a vet immediately.

After a couple days, there is no sense in taking him to the vet unless he is acting sick. Fortunately, Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) toxicity isn’t as great as that of other types of lilies, including Easter lily and Asiatic lilies. The Peace lily, isn’t a true lily, so it doesn’t cause damage to the kidneys and liver like the other lillies do.

I would recommend taking Hunter to a vet as soon as possible. Certain types of lilies can be toxic and cause kidney failure in cats. However with Hunter being 17 it is possible something else could be going on causing him illness like infection, dental disease, kidney disease, and even cancers. I think it is best for him to see a vet and have a good physical exam and blood work to determine why he is so sick. I hope he feels better soon

It sounds like Lily really does need to see the vet, and if she stops eating due to the pain, that is extremely serious. You can see if there is a vet in your area that accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. First off, you did the right thing by calling your vet right away about Evie. As I'm sure you are aware, lilies are toxic to cats. I agree with monitoring her, as you don't know if she has ingested any of the plant or not. The pollen of certain lily species (the Lilium or Hemerocallis species) can be toxic to cats if ingested, and hopefully she hasn't gotten any in her mouth. Clinical signs of toxicity include vomiting, anorexia, drooling, lethargy, pawing at the mouth, foaming, excessive or decreased thirst or urination, and/or painful abdomen. If you see any of those signs, get her into a vet immediately. In the meantime, remove any lilies from the house or any you have outside to keep them away from her. Hopefully, she will be ok. Hello, it really depends on what poison or toxin your cat got into. There are specific therapies for these. If it is recent ingestion of a toxin or poison, you may have your veterinarian induce vomiting to prevent the side effects of this toxin. I would recommend finding immediate emergency care for your cat and informing them what specific poison or ingestion of toxin you think your cat got into so that they can better help you.
