My cat is in pain. I gave her aspirin. Is it safe or effective?

Poor Mavis! No, do NOT give aspirin or any other human over-the-counter pain medications, as these are extremely toxic in cats. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can get over the counter that would be safe to give her. If she's holding up the leg completely and/or seems really painful on it, then I would recommend having her seen tonight at an emergency clinic for an exam and possibly x-rays. If this isn't possible, then I would take her to your regular vet tomorrow morning to be seen if she's still limping.

Here are my recommendations: 1) Wash/spray the area with just cool, clean water (no soap or other antiseptics) for at least 5 minutes at a time. Do this at least twice a day. 2) Bandage the wound with gauze and apply an over-the-counter antibacterial cream (i.e Neosporin) to the wound. Only apply the cream if the wound can be covered - otherwise, she will likely lick it off. I still recommend she sees a vet sometime soon though. An infected cyst is not common and may actually indicate a tumor or other problem, so you'll definitely want a vet to examine the wound. I hope that helps and Gia gets better soon.

Yes, Reznor will be fine. The reason for dosing aspirin every 3 days is that cats metabolize aspirin slowly, so we do not want to give it every day long term. Some vets will give aspirin every 2 days, but generally every 3 days is safer. If giving aspirin every 3 days become difficult to keep track of, there are some newer pain medications for cats that are a little safer and can be given daily, so that might be something to talk to you vet about in the future. No, please don't give your cat over the counter medications. Cats are extremely sensitive to them and you will not be able to get a dose small enough for a 1 pound cat. It is not recommended you give any medicines over the counter. If this was from an ingrown nail then he will need some antibiotics. It is likely infected which is why it is swollen. He really needs to see a vet for this issue. That way he can get the proper treatment. In the meantime you can soak the foot in an Epsom salt bath for 5 minutes 2-3 times per day. This is not an emergency service. You need to get your cat to a vet ASAP. Aspirin can kill your cat. You can try to induce vomiting at home but this is not recommended as there is a high chance that he will aspirate. Also, this will not help if he drank it more than 15-20 minutes ago.
