How to treat my cat's skin wounds from an amoxicillin allergy?

I am so sorry to hear about Garfield! I would recommend rechecking with your vet. It is possible the wound may have a more resistant bacteria and the wound may need to be cultured to determine if the antibiotic is effective. Sometimes these wounds need to be debrided (dead tissue removed) and have a special bandage called a tie-over bandage (used for areas difficult to bandage) with wound dressing such as medical grade honey to stimulate granulation/healthy tissue formation initially as well.

The wipes may be further irritating the area so I would discontinue the wipes and consider trying a topical spray such as Malacetic Conditioning spray (can be found online) and apply twice daily until resolved. This may also be a fungal infection such as ringworm so using the spray will help treat the potential fungal infection. If the area does not improve or it worsens, I would bring Marlow back in for a recheck examination with the previous veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to allergies. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

If it is a larger sore or the small sore does not get any better I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Garfield so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. Poor Gravy! Those do look painful. If you haven't yet, a skin scraping of the site sent to a lab may help determine if there is a specific bacteria or infection causing the wounds. This may give your vet the ability to target it better with a more specific antibiotic that will help it to heal. Making sure to keep Gravy from pawing at the spot with an Elizabethan (cone) collar can also help promote healing and prevent further irritation. In long-term non-healing wounds, many vets have also found success using Manuka honey (different than the honey you get in the grocery store) as a salve to help promote tissue growth and healing. I would consider taking a culture of the lesion and using the indicated antibiotics. Also, it would be important to ensure that he is unable to chew or lick at it as that will continue to worsen it. You could consider an e-collar which you may get from your local pet store. If it does not resolve, a biopsy of the lesion should be considered. Good luck and have a good day!

Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.
