What's the ideal feeding frequency for my 5-day-old bottle-fed kitten?

Hi, I have a 5 day old kitten which I am bottle feeding. I have read so much stuff online I no longer know what to follow. I’m wanting to know how many hours in between each feed I should wait so ideally how many feeds in 24 hours. So far I have been feeding every 2-3 hours round the clock. I always make 5ml of formula. Sometimes the kitten almost drinks it all. I don’t want to over feed the kitten some things I’ve read say 7 feeds a day but round the clock I’m doing more than this...

You are absolutely correct this kitten should be fed every 2-3 hours at this stage. It's always better to underfeed than overfeed. I will put a link to a PetCoach article which should help you with her care. Best of luck.

Great question! He should be getting around 55cc daily of formula, but it should be spread out in feeds throughout the day and night. He needs to be fed every two and half to three hours, and this includes the night. It's better to underfeed than overfeed, it's safer to give smaller amounts of formula in more feeds than several large ones. Newborns typically feed every 2-4 hours. If they are good eaters you can let them nurse until they are full and their bellies are a little tight. If they are not nursing well then they may need more feedings but try to get them to eat 1/2 ounce. Around 3 weeks old you can usually stop the night feedings and just do frequent feedings during the day. Remember to gently stimulate them with a warm cloth to go to the bathroom

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would cut the feedings starting now. And get them off the formula in the next 10-14 days. I would cut the feedings in half this week and then again next week. You can still mix the formula in with the canned food. Good luck!

Hello. At 4 weeks of age, your kitten should be well on the way to eating solid food. I would prepare a dish of wet cat food mixed with a little kitten milk replacer & offer her this 3 times a day. If she still wants the bottle, I would only be doing this twice a day to encourage her to eat the solid food. A kitten this age will probably have 2-3 bowel movements in a 24 hour period. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! So cute! Koa maybe trying to make up for lost time! I would bring her in to the Vet for an exam and deworming. Intestinal parasites may be competing with her nutritional needs. At 5 weeks I do not think you need to use the formula any more. I would feed her 3-4 times per day and leave some dry food down. Be sure you are feeding kitten food. I wish you and Koa the very best!
