Why is my Quaker parrot sleeping, picky, cranky, and throwing up?

Vomiting is a very concerning issue, and if Cutie is unable to keep any food down, is losing weight, or is otherwise showing other signs of illness, seeking veterinary care ASAP (and separating her from your other birds into a hospital cage) is best. Infections, GI issues, parasites, crop issues, etc can all be possible causes.

Balance issues and falling off the perch are not normal behaviors, so if your Quaker is having trouble staying perched, is acting confused, or is unable to eat or drink properly I would seek veterinary care ASAP. Underlying issues such as muscular or neurologic disease, illnesses, infections, nutrient deficiencies, etc can all cause problems like this to happen, so ruling them out is best. Make sure to keep offering him a balanced diet, and if you suspect illness, keep him warm and separated from other birds until you can seek veterinary care.

If Kaki is actively vomiting up the food (not just regurgitating) or is showing other signs of illness such as changes in weight (losing weight), disinterest in eating, etc, I would try to get him into the vet sooner as this could be a sign of something more serious that requires additional treatment. If he seems to be maintaining his weight and isn't bothered by bringing up the food, you may be able to wait until his vet exam, however if his symptoms worsen or he shows other signs of illness seeking care sooner is best. Rapid changes to the diet and lots of extras can cause GI upset and changes to the stool, and if he wasn't being fed such a rich diet previously his body may be still trying to adjust to it all. Sticking to the basics he is able to keep down (such as the pellets) may help his body to adjust until his vet visit. Ruling out other issues such as infections, sour crop, parasites, etc with your vet is also smart.

Thanks for reaching out about Cheeku. If she is not eating, she needs to see a veterinarian. Crop/esophageal infections or obstruction (ingested foreign material) can cause serious problems. Maintaining proper husbandry (i.e. environmental temperature) is important for sick birds, to conserve their own energy to fight illness. Veterinarians attempt to place ill birds in incubators fo 80-85 degrees, 24/7. Attempt to syringe water, as dehydrate is a more immediate concern than starvation. Good luck.

In the second image, she definitely looks unthrifty and ill. Without a physical exam though, it is difficult to say for sure what is going on with her. If you can, transition from an all seed diet to a pelleted diet which is more balanced. Brands include Harrison's, Lafeber, Pretty Bird or KayTee Exact. You can still offer a small amount of a fortified seed mix as well as fresh fruits and vegetables to round out the diet.

If Bruno is unable to keep any food down, is vomiting, and won't eat, it is best to seek care from a local avian veterinarian ASAP. It is possible there is something obstructing the crop, an underlying illness, parasites, infection, or physical deformity that is preventing Bruno from being able to eat properly. A complete exam is needed in person to figure out the cause. If he is housed with any other birds, moving him to a separate hospital cage that is kept warm may help reduce stress, but veterinary care is required to figure out the cause.

If Sky's behavior has changed recently, and you are are also noticing a change in stool consistency without a change in diet or environment, then having him examined by your vet is a good idea. Some environmental changes, such as extreme heat may cause a bird to be more lethargic until it cools down, however they should still otherwise be eating, drinking and moving about some. Diet changes can also change the color or consistency of stool if there are colored pellets or different seeds introduced. It may be that he is still mourning the loss of his friend, and so is less active, however being completely uninterested in activities, having a change in stool without a diet change, or sleeping all the time are not considered normal.
