My baby parrot is vomiting and not eating. What's the cause?

Vomiting is a very concerning issue, and if Cutie is unable to keep any food down, is losing weight, or is otherwise showing other signs of illness, seeking veterinary care ASAP (and separating her from your other birds into a hospital cage) is best. Infections, GI issues, parasites, crop issues, etc can all be possible causes.

Regurgitation can be caused by many thing such as ingestion of foreign material (plastic, fabric, wood, etc), toxic ingestion (lead, zinc,plants), metabolic disorders (liver, kidney), infections and several viral diseases. Each of these have different means of diagnosis and possible treatments, therefore a veterinary visit is recommended. Chronic regurgitation can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, malnutrition, and more, making a veterinary visit even more expedient. Try offering small amounts of food and water, more frequently to decrease possibility of regurgitation. Good luck.

Tweety bird needs to be seen by an avian veterinarian immediately. These guys are so little that they can decompensate quickly when sick. Vomiting and anorexia in a bird this size can quickly become fatal.

A veterinary visit needs to be arranged to assist with a diagnostics/treatment plan, as different conditions are treated with different medications/procedures. Unfortunately, not eating and being listless are very vague symptoms of illness. Anything from being overheated, to having internal parasites, GI upset, underlying illness, etc can be a potential cause. If they have not eaten anything in several days, it is best to seek veterinary care immediately as by the time birds show symptoms of illness they are usually pretty sick. Until you can get to the vet, separating them into warm hospital cages that are kept in a quiet, dark area with easy access to food and water may help, however seeking veterinary care is needed.

Thanks for reaching out about Cheeku. If she is not eating, she needs to see a veterinarian. Crop/esophageal infections or obstruction (ingested foreign material) can cause serious problems. Maintaining proper husbandry (i.e. environmental temperature) is important for sick birds, to conserve their own energy to fight illness. Veterinarians attempt to place ill birds in incubators fo 80-85 degrees, 24/7. Attempt to syringe water, as dehydrate is a more immediate concern than starvation. Good luck.
