My parrot is sleepy after wing clipping. Was it held too tightly?

Panting can sometimes be a sign of heat exhaustion or extreme distress in birds. If moving your bird to a calm, quiet and cool cage does not resolve the panting, or your bird is having trouble breathing it is best to seek emergency medical care from a local veterinarian ASAP. Keeping him in a cool, dark, quiet room may help him recover, but if his symptoms don't improve care is needed.

If there is no visible injury but Kody still seems agitated, giving him a chance to rest and relax by keeping his cage quiet and dark may help him to settle back in. I would keep an eye on him, and if he stays agitated or doesn't return to normal after 24 hours, have a vet take a look to make sure there isn't an injury or issue causing his distress.

If they had to gas or sedate him to do this I would definitely expect him to be sleepy. If they didn't it could be that ideas stressful for him and he's very tired. If he doesn't perk up have him examined.

The best way to monitor this is to look for the passing of feces. When you trim wings, it is best to use wire cutters and not scissors. This is to force you to observe each feather prior to clipping, and to notice if it is a blood feather or not. Don't clip if a blood feather.
