What helps a parrot regain leg sensation after a healed fracture?

If you pinch toes hard, does the bird respond? Test all 4 toes. Anti-inflammatory medications can help take down swelling but nerve regeneration takes time, if at all. If Pullu is mutilating the leg due to pain, an avian collar is needed. If appears infected, antibiotics are needed. Good luck.

There is no specific medication for which you are asking, especially approved for use in birds. A diagnosis needs to be concluded also. The previously mentioned massage therapy, cold laser or acupuncture are probably your best ideas.

Fungal infections usually affect the respiratory or gastrointestinal tracts and not neurologic issues. Arthritis or articular gout are possible and radiographs are recommended to assess. If the leg is currently broken, it needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away as breaks in bird bones can lead to serious infection. If it was broken or deformed in the past but now healed, there may not be much that can be done for it, but a vet can still take a look. Otherwise, changing Parrot's environment so it is easier for him to perch, get around, get into and out of food and water dishes, etc may help.

A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. For now, remove perches and place a thick towel on the bottom of the cage on which to stand. If there is scar tissue below the band, constriction the blood flow, than that needs to be surgical released. The longer the foot goes without circulation, the more likely the tissue will die. If you pinch the toes, is there a pain response (withdrawing foot, vocalizing)? Test all 4 toes. A veterinary visit is recommended ASAP. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Bhola. Weak or paralyzed legs in older parakeets are often associated with renal or gonadal masses that impinge on the nerves that supply the legs. Potent anti-inflammatories might help shrink the masses but probably will not cure. Quality of life should be considered. Good luck.
