How to care for a lovebird with paralyzed feet after illness?

Hello! My lovebird had an fungal infection inside the body. But now he is healthy .He got over this illness. And his foots got paralysis. He can use his legs but no foots. Sometimes he try to climb in cage and can do for some seconds . What do you think about this topic? Have good day !

Thanks for reaching out about your budgie and including photos. How was the fungal infection diagnosed? Fungal infections usually affect the respiratory or gastrointestinal tracts and not neurologic issues. Arthritis or articular gout are possible and radiographs are recommended to assess. Anti-inflammatories could help relieve discomfort but blood work should be taken prior to long term medications.
Removing perches or providing broad platforms and climbing ladders, could make perching more comfortable for birds with disabilities.

My bird can't stand or perch due to birth defect. What can I do?

Ouch! Those feet should be checked out by a vet and some blood tests run to make sure there isn't a nutritional deficiency or other illness causing the foot problem. If your bird checks out OK, then it may be a genetic deformity that will be there for life. Birds that have trouble perching or getting around may do better with large, flat perches, or flat shelf-like platforms so they can rest their feet and move around without falling off. Food and water dishes with similar shaped platforms can also help make it easier for your bird to access.

Thanks for reaching out about Pablo. This could either be a leg injury (fracture, luxation, neurologic) or an enlarged organ (kidney, testicle) placing pressure on nerve to that leg. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. For now, remove perches and place a thick towel on the bottom of the cage on which to stand. Thanks for reaching out about Pullu and including photos. Not quiet sure what a leg nerve disorder is but this looks infected. It is possible the nerve was damaged due to the fracture. If you pinch toes hard, does the bird respond? Test all 4 toes. Anti-inflammatory medications can help take down swelling but nerve regeneration takes time, if at all. If Pullu is mutilating the leg due to pain, an avian collar is needed. If appears infected, antibiotics are needed. Good luck.
