Why is my lovebird suddenly sleeping a lot and less active?

my lovebird is sleeping a lot all of a sudden and not as active as she usually is I'm just worried it could be nothing but I would like to know. Thanks

If your lovebird is suddenly very lethargic, you should have her seen by a vet. She might have an infection or other illness that needs treating. Birds are good at hiding illness, so once they look sick,they are often so much sicker than you think. Please get her seen by a vet to figure out what might be going on.

Thanks for reaching out about Sam. Try closing the window and provide heat support in the 80-85 F range, to give assistance. If remains lethargic, a veterinary visit is needed as she can be ill. Review diet and husbandry practices with the veterinarian, as optimal conditions are needed for recovery.

Use a warm, moist washcloth to clear away any discharge or crust. Consider an exam with your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet to diagnose illness or injury. In the meantime, clean and sanitize Blue's cage, bowls, toys and perches. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Use paper towels on the cage bottom and change them daily. Keep Blue warm and as stress free as possible until she sees the doctor.

Blue is probably ill, but i couldn't tell you what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, you will need to take her to an avian vet where a blood test and faecal exam will be done to determine what is the cause of the disease before it can be treated.

Illness, infections, parasites, malnutrition, etc can all cause a bird to become ill and lethargic. Until you can get to the vet, you can move Sky to a separate hospital cage that is kept warm if she is kept with other birds, with easy access to food and water, and in a calm, quiet location. This may help her some until your vet can determine the issue.

Unfortunately, those are all very vague symptoms that are common to several issues. Anything from illness to infection, parasites, etc may be the cause of Lala's symptoms. If he continues to show them, seeking veterinary care is best for an exam to figure out the cause. it is also a good idea to move him to a hospital cage that is kept warm with easy access to food and water and separated from other birds to allow him to rest until you can get to the vet.

However, if Prince is more lethargic and sleeping more than normal, I would agree that he could be sick with an infection or some other illness. therefore, I would recommend you take him to see a veterinarian since birds can get seriously ill very fast. My pigeon is always sleeping and acting strange. What's happening?

Unfortunately, lethargy/sleepiness is a very vague symptom that may just indicate she isn't feeling well, but not what is causing her to feel that way. A good step would be to bring her to the vet, especially if you note any other signs of illness such as changes in weight, acting listless even when you're not interacting with her, not eating or drinking, stool changes, etc. If she checks out healthy, or seems normal and healthy otherwise when you aren't trying to pet her, it could just be that Pidgey is getting more used to you, and is actually enjoying your touch enough to relax and rest around you. This can be a good sign of bonding! However, if she seems ill or you are concerned, a vet appointment in person is best.

However, If your bird is unmoving and seems very lethargic and this has been ongoing for several hours or the entire day/several days, it could be a sign of illness. As these symptoms are very vague, it is best to seek out veterinary care ASAP to help determine the cause and get her feeling better. Illness, infection, malnutrition, obstructions and more can all cause similar symptoms and should be checked out by a vet. Until you can get to the vet, moving her to a hospital cage that is separate from other birds, and kept warm and quiet with easy access to a balanced diet and water may help, however if symptoms continue or do not improve, seeking veterinary care is best.
