My bird is tired and not moving after eating millet. Is she sick?

Wassabi Is not moving shes breathing but tierd she resently ate alot of millit is she full or sick this morning she was happy with paco

Birds do have periods of rest throughout the day in between periods of activity that is normal behavior.

However, If your bird is unmoving and seems very lethargic and this has been ongoing for several hours or the entire day/several days, it could be a sign of illness. As these symptoms are very vague, it is best to seek out veterinary care ASAP to help determine the cause and get her feeling better. Illness, infection, malnutrition, obstructions and more can all cause similar symptoms and should be checked out by a vet.

Until you can get to the vet, moving her to a hospital cage that is separate from other birds, and kept warm and quiet with easy access to a balanced diet and water may help, however if symptoms continue or do not improve, seeking veterinary care is best.

Lethargy and sleeping during the day (to conserve energy) are clinical signs of being sick, the question is why. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some support. Monitor fecal production by a total cage clean-out. Sick birds often act like they're eating but aren't. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Multiple possibilities include ingestion of foreign material (metal, fabric, wood, etc.), metabolic concerns (liver, renal), infections (viral, bacterial) and others. Good luck.

Unfortunately, those are all very vague symptoms of illness that can be caused by any number of things including infections, diseases, parasites, malnutrition, etc. It would be best to bring Mitthu to your local vet for a complete exam to try and find out what is wrong. They may suggest additional tests such as bloodwork or an X-ray to help find the problem. In the meantime, keeping him in a warm hospital cage that is separated from any other birds and with easy access to food and water in shallow dishes with low perches may help some until he can be seen by a vet.

Until you can get to the vet, you can move Sky to a separate hospital cage that is kept warm if she is kept with other birds, with easy access to food and water, and in a calm, quiet location. This may help her some until your vet can determine the issue.

That's a lot of change at once and it could be that it's stressing Blu-ray (cute name!) out a bit. I would hold off on giving any extra treats for a few days, as they may be causing digestive upset as well, and see if she improves. If the listless behavior continues, she stops eating or drinking, or she appears to get worse, then it is a good idea to seek veterinary care ASAP to rule out any more serious issues such as an underlying illness or infection.

I'm sorry Gansito isn't feeling well. Lethargy and puffed feathers are very nonspecific signs of illness in birds. But it could be be serious as birds don't show signs of illness easily. They try to hide thier illnesses as long as possible. Make sure his cage is in a warm, quiet, draft free environment. Try to encourage him to keep eating, cooked eggs are a high nutrient food that may tempt him. Millet is better than nothing but not very complete nutritionally. But he probably needs a veterinarian as soon as possible to evaluate what is wrong. It could be anything from a viral infectio, fungal or bacterial cancer or any other illness. Good luck to Gansito
