What should I do if I find a sick or injured crow in my yard?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I believe there is a sick crow in my yard. It huddles down, doesn't stand tall on legs when walking, labored breathing, sits longer period of time on porch rail than other crows, appears to have difficulty eating/drinking. What should I do, if anything?

You can call your local veterinary clinic or humane society. Ask for the contact information of the nearest wildlife rehabilitator. If the crow can be caught, a rehabber can give it the best chance at recovery and eventual release. Do not attempt to trap or handle the bird yourself.

Contact the nearest veterinary clinic or veterinary ER. Ask for the contact information for the closest wildlife rehabilitator. Turn the crow chick over for care. A rehabber will have the experience and knowledge to give the chick its best chance at recovery and eventual release.
Check local laws and ordinances regarding keeping wildlife for any reason. You may unknowingly be in violation of wildlife protection laws.
