Gold is not toxic, however depending on size it may cause an intestinal problem. The ring could still be in the crop and a veterinarian may be able to remove it from the crop through the beak. It would be best to take your bird to a veterinarian for an x-ray to find out where the ring is situated now and to assess whether it needs to be removed or whether it can leave the body the natural way.

If the bleeding has stopped, I would keep an eye on him and If he has any trouble breathing, there is a large visible wound or crack on the beak, or he isn't eating or drinking, then I would seek veterinary care ASAP as these are all signs that the issue is more serious and requires treatment by a veterinarian.

It's absolutely not fine if it is in her stomach, and it's a very bad situation as she will probably need to have a surgery done to get it removed. these surgeries can only be done by avian vet specialist and even with one, the chances of a successful surgery are less than 50% survival.

Boy, you wouldn't believe how often we see this happen! Birds are so curious and they have such strong little beaks! Having that checked by a vet would be best. However, if there is no damage to the beak- holes, cracked pieces etc and no damage to the soft tissues inside the mouth (sometimes these toys will cut into the soft skin on the inside of the beak), then your little friend should be fine!

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. I'm sorry that Mango is having this issue. Yes, many different metals can cause toxicity in birds if ingested but the main ones of concern are lead and zinc. You will need to take Mango to an avian vet when they are open. The metal snap will need to be removed even if it is made of a non harmless metal like stainless steel. I suggest you go to a speciality center as they are more likely to have an endoscope which will be better than doing an open surgery for removal. Sometimes, depending on where the metal piece is located in the GI tract and the size of the snap, they can try removal via bulking agents fed orally instead of doing any invasive procedures. This could signify an serious infection of the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, or reproductive tract since birds have a single common opening for all 3 systems (the cloaca). Other possible causes of blood would be a retained or broken egg, heavy metal toxicity, foreign body, trauma, or a bleeding tumor. Whatever the underlying cause, it is potentially serious and requires a thorough assessment and treatment by a veterinarian. One thing I have seen is birds that have recently eaten red berries or other red food may pass droppings that may resemble blood. If Angel hasn’t recently (within 12-24 hours) eaten anything very red, then i would take her to a veterinarian as soon as possible. Good luck.
