Can chickens eat marshmallows? What are safe treats for Easter?

They can eat chicken feed, cracked corn, oats, groats, greens, oyster shells (crushed), mealworms, nightcrawlers, crickets, berries and carrots just to list a few items. This is by no means an all inclusive list. You can find more acceptable foods at www.backyardchickens.com.

Hello. It is possible, depending on how much Mijah ate. All that sugar can cause what we call an osmotic diarrhea by pulling excess water out of the ingesta in the intestines. Most of these diarrheas are self-limiting, so if Mijah feels like eating you can feed a bland diet of 25% boiled chicken & 75% white rice or low fat cottage cheese. Feed small amounts more frequently over the next 2-3 days, & the stool should start to firm up. She should be fine. Just keep an eye on her and do not induce vomiting. She may have vomiting or diarrhea but probably not. If so she should be better in a day or so. If she should become lethargic or have stomach pain or severe diarrhea then certainly take her in for treatment right away. These foods can be fed to poultry but they may not include all the nutrients necessary for optimum health. It is good that the potato is cooked because a raw potato can cause health issues for chickens. Depending on the type of whole grain offered they may not be getting enough protein. Usually chickens are fed a grain mixture, called scratch grains with a pellet or crumble made for the age of the bird. For example, we feed a growing ratio when developing when chickens are young or a laying ratio when the hens are old enough to lay eggs.
