My canary's leg is swollen from its band. What should I do now?

If there is scar tissue below the band, constriction the blood flow, than that needs to be surgical released. The longer the foot goes without circulation, the more likely the tissue will die. If you pinch the toes, is there a pain response (withdrawing foot, vocalizing)? Test all 4 toes. A veterinary visit is recommended ASAP. Good luck.

Providing low, flat perches or no perches at all along with shallow easy to access food and water dishes may help. I am sorry Bahloul is not feeling well. Unfortunately for Bahloul there is no easy fix to her leg. I would recommend taking her to a vet as soon as possible to be evaluated. I am concerned about viral disease, infectious disease but also her kidney function. She most likely needs some blood work and possibly an x-ray to determine the cause of her leg swelling. Hi, It sounds like Elliot most likely did have a fall or get his leg stuck in cage bars. A dislocation or fracture sounds possible based on what you have described, and unfortunately this is somewhat common in birds, especially young birds as the supporting structures of he developing bones are still soft. Even though he is still eating well, Elliot is most likely in significant pain from his injury and should have some pain medication prescribed. Also, his best chance at having the injury corrected so it can heal in proper alignment will be in the hands of a veterinarian. So a visit to your veterinarian is the best thing for Elliot right now. Make sure he keeps eating and is maintaining weight, as good nutrition will be the foundation of his ability to heal. Good luck!

Thanks for reaching out. There are concerns the leg has become injured, either a sprain, dislocation or fracture. Even an injured toe can be painful enough to not allow weight bearing. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Removing perches and providing a soft towel on the bottom of the cage can give comfort. Ensure that food and water are within reach. If there continues to be blood on the toe, gently clean with a moistened warm water on a washcloth. Keep the environment clean to prevent standing in feces and contaminating any wounds. Good luck.
