Can I feed Bengal gram leaves to my budgie? Are chickpea leaves safe?

Finches and budgies can eat a commercially available seed or pelleted diet (found in most pet stores or on the internet). They can have occasional treats of fruits and vegetables, but I would avoid any medicine plants or herbs. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

Lettuce can cause some digestive upset in birds and runny stool. I would recommend feeding fresh fruits and other veggies (like zucchini, carrots, and peppers) instead. There is also an increased risk of E. coli In bagged lettuce products right now so I would stay away from those as well. I hope this helps. If your budgies are actively eating on their own you can offer some vegetables and sprouts to them in small amounts, however make sure it doesn't make up the bulk of their diet. They should still be on a regular balanced budgie diet to ensure they stay healthy and growing.

A wide variety of vegetables including greens, red/orange/yellow vegetables such as carrots and squashes. Fruits are more like treats, due to high sugar content. As per handling them. Thanks for reaching out about your gerbil. There are definitely some leaves that could be toxic, but not many household vegetables are toxic. You should avoid any plants from the onion family (onions, leeks, etc.). If using outdoor plants, leaves from apple or fruit with pits (apricot, peach) can contain some cyanide and be toxic. If you can't identify a plant, research it before feeding. Good luck.

Fruits, vegetables and greens should account for approximately 20 - 25% of the daily diet. Pale vegetables, with a high water composition (i.e. Iceberg or Head lettuce, celery) offer very little nutritional value. Avocado is reported to be potentially toxic.
