My budgie seems depressed, squeaky, and won't sing. How can I help?

For finches, I recommend keeping a bit of seeds in the diet - this amount is approximately 10%. This can help to provide some fat in the diet and this can lead to an increase in singing. You can also add greens or other vegetables into the diet as enrichment and supplemental nutrition. The depression portion is a bit concerning, as this should not be caused by diet unless the birds are not eating enough and are losing weight. If this concern continues after the birds have had a bit of seeds, I would recommend a veterinary visit. Kiki may be bored, stressed or ill. Provide more interaction and attention if possible. Birds are flock animals and although some are fine alone, others may need "company". This extra attention could be from human or avian companionship. Rearrange the cage to provide enrichment. Switch out old toys for new toys, provide different sized perches and offer a variety of foods for him to forage. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, loose droppings or sitting quietly with eyes closed and feathers puffed out. These can be signs of illness requiring an exam with an experienced avian veterinarian.

Birds that are sad or ill may be listless, not want to eat or drink, or not interested in activities they once enjoyed.

If Harley is used to having a friend I think it would be a good idea to introduce a new buddy for him. Budgies are social birds and having a friend may help with his depression over the loss of his previous one. Make sure to introduce the birds slowly, and that both will have access to food, water, perch spaces, etc without competition to ensure it goes smoothly.

I'm sorry Gansito isn't feeling well. Lethargy and puffed feathers are very nonspecific signs of illness in birds. But it could be be serious as birds don't show signs of illness easily. They try to hide thier illnesses as long as possible. Make sure his cage is in a warm, quiet, draft free environment. Try to encourage him to keep eating, cooked eggs are a high nutrient food that may tempt him. Millet is better than nothing but not very complete nutritionally. But he probably needs a veterinarian as soon as possible to evaluate what is wrong. It could be anything from a viral infectio, fungal or bacterial cancer or any other illness. Good luck to Gansito

If you think she is losing weight and malnourished then you should re-evaluate her diet. Birds do not do well on an all seed diet so, if seeds are the majority of her diet you need to change that.
