My 18-year-old bird wouldn't open eyes, then was fine. Why?

I would be concerned that your bird may have injured himself or inhaled some water during his bath since he is not acting normally now. I would recommend taking your bird to the vet as soon as possible. In the meantime try to make sure your bird is warm and dry and if he wakes up offer him some of his favorites treats/snacks to encourage him to eat. I hope this helps. Just shutting the eyes/sleeping is a very vague sign, so it would be hard to say. It may just be she is relaxing and taking a nap if she only does it on her perch and is otherwise happy, active, eating and drinking, etc. If she seems to sleep all the time, isn't interested in food or water as much, has visible signs of illness, or is puffed up all the time, then these can indicate possible illness. Keeping her eating and drinking, watching for any signs of illness and making sure she is in a stress-free and not too warm or too cold environment can help, however if you see signs of illness or are concerned about her health, scheduling a vet visit in person is always best.

Hello. I am worried about Spot. Birds should be very bright and alert. Half closed eyes are a sign of depression and lethargy which are subtle but real signs of illness. An exam by your veterinarian will help determine what’s wrong and how to best treat it.

Providing heat support in the 85-90 F as an incubator can give some comfort, but is not a substitute for a treatment. Offering water via a small syringe can help maintain hydration. If you just acquired him 1-2 days ago, could be stress and not sleeping well at night. Provide supplemental heat support in the 80-85 F range to give support. This sounds like Lemon is pretty ill. Unfortunately, he will need to be seen by a veterinarian in person right away as these are general symptoms and don't point to any one illness in particular. Until you can get to the vet, moving him to a hospital cage that is kept warm and with perches removed, and easy access to food and water may help.
