Why is my bird lying down and looking dead? What should I do?

Hello. I am very sorry to hear that Blue is having such trouble. This actually sounds very serious to me and I would urge you to take Blue to a veterinarian as soon as possible. I wouldn’t wait, since birds can deteriorate and die very quickly and Blue already sounds quite unstable. I’m sorry to relay this news and wish I had an easy solution for you. Hello. Your bird is sick, but there is no way to diagnose the problem in this forum. It may be infectious, metabolic, parasitic or even neoplastic. You need to have Blue examined as soon as possible, but until them make sure he is kept as warm as possible. Increasing the room temperature to about 80 degrees will help. Those are all very general signs of illness in a bird. It would be a good idea to get Blue to a vet as soon as possible to try and determine what may be causing his symptoms. Until you can get to your vet, keeping him in a warm hospital cage with low/no perches and food and water that is easy to get in and out of may help.

She looks to be thin in the photos - the way we look at body condition in a bird is by the breast, and I can see that her keel bone appears to be more prominent in the photos. This, along with the abnormal vocalizations that you are hearing, may indicate that she is sick. I would ensure that her environment is free of stress due to her having her chicks, as an increase in stress can lead to illness. If she is stressed, she may also not eat as much food as she needs as well. I would recommend that she is evaluated by a veterinarian, if possible - depending on what they find on examination, they may recommend diagnostic testing such as radiographs or systemic blood work. They can also offer potential treatment options for her as well. To decrease stress at home, please ensure that she is in a quiet and warm place with no drafts, loud noises, or unfamiliar objects/people/animals. Providing supplemental heat in the 80-85 F can give some support but is not in lieu of a veterinary visit.
