Can my Alexandrine parakeet eat aloe vera, and how much is safe?

Both of these substances in large quantities can be harmful to birds. Salt is definitely more dangerous however and should be generally avoided. Sugar is not truly toxic but is definitely not recommended as part of the diet for a parrot.

I would just monitor for gastrointestinal upset. Usually these are not toxic but can cause soft stool. In rabbits soft stool can be considered an emergency. Rabbits eat a part of their feces to help them digest food. If Alpha develops diarrhea I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam.

A diet should consist of a wide variety of vegetables, a plant-based protein source (legumes, beans), a commercially available avian pellets and some seed. I would just keep an eye on Buddy. Aloe vera ingestion can cause vomiting and diarrhea, but it is usually self-limiting, meaning it usually gets better without treatment. If he starts to have symptoms, offer him plenty of fluids (water, broth, pedialyte). Since he is so tiny, I would not recommend withholding food, but try for bland foods like chicken breast and cooked white rice.
