Puppy ate aloe vera, no symptoms. What can I do without a vet?

The sap of the aloe plant can cause a dog to vomit and/or have diarrhea, but would not cause any other problems beyond that. It seems like she had a very small amount, so it's likely that she won't have any problems, but she may vomit or have loose stools in the next 24 hours. This is expected to be temporary though and would be back to normal within two days. If you happen to notice any problems beyond that, then it would be best to take Bella to a vet. I would just monitor for gastrointestinal upset. Usually these are not toxic but can cause soft stool. In rabbits soft stool can be considered an emergency. Rabbits eat a part of their feces to help them digest food. If Alpha develops diarrhea I recommend taking him to a vet for an exam.

I'm sorry to hear that Molly isn't feeling well! You are correct that the aloe vera plant itself is toxic to dogs, but the gel within the plant is actually considered edible. If Molly licked pure aloe vera gel of off someone, it is unlikely that her vomiting is related to this ingestion and may be related to a virus, stomach upset from eating something else, parasites, etc. However, if the product was an aloe vera after sun product, it likely contains a variety of other ingredients that could be causing her vomiting. If she licked an after sun product, first try to determine the exact product that was used, then call the ASPCA animal poison control center to determine if there are any associated toxicities with this product (888-426-4435; there is a $65 consultation fee). If there are no other toxicities, you can try withholding food for 12 hours, then offering small frequent meals of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for several days. After that time, gradually transition back to Molly's normal diet over another 5-7 days. If the vomiting continues, or if she also develops diarrhea, a loss of appetite and lethargy, Molly will need to go to her vet for evaluation. I hope that all goes well!

Hello. I very much doubt the single half dose off the Megaderm caused the diarrhea, but aloe vera is a cathartic and ingestion of a lot of this can cause intense diarrhea. If this is the cause of the diarrhea, then continue the psyllium, and make sure Bipo is eating & drinking well. You do not want him to become dehydrated from the diarrhea. Do not use any more of the aloe vera on him. It is also possible that the diarrhea was caused by something else, such as a bacterial overdose or parasites & he may need to see a veterinarian for additional treatment. I would shy away from the use of Aloe Vera in dogs, particularly those which are small breeds. If ingested, it can cause severe diarrhea resulting in dehydration and the clinical signs associated with that.

Oh no, that was naughty of Oliver to eat those greens! Certain varieties of the lily are toxic to dog, and eating these varieties can cause GI upset, anorexia, and tremors. You have seen some GI upset, and I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps him. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Hello. Is Rowan doing OK, active, bright & alert? If so, you can watch him as the food will very likely be digested. If, however, he is lethargic, miserable, moaning, develops vomiting &/or diarrhea, I would have him seen soon. Of course, I would probably withhold any food & treats for the next 12 hours, & do not let him gulp down water. If he drinks a reasonable amount, fine, but if he wants to just chug down a bowl, replace the water with ice cubes to lick on. Hopefully, he will be back to normal tomorrow.
