Why is my sheep's udder growing after stillbirth? Is she pregnant?

The left side does look much bigger than the right, but does not appear infected. It is not uncommon for there to be some asymmetry between the two udders, but I agree that this is rather pronounced. Given the size of the udders, I would expect that she would be due any day now. False pregnancy is a possibility, but rather rare, so I wouldn't be too suspicious of this yet. I would just keep an eye on the udder for any change in color or discharge like pus or blood. This would indicate that there is an infection. If it has an infection or you are otherwise concerned, then it would be best to have a veterinarian check her out. They could have a better look at the udder, test it for signs of infection and easily be able to check for pregnancy. I hope that helps and Iris has a kid soon.

Hello. Without knowing how long ago the doe was in with the buck, I cannot rule out pregnancy, but a steroid injection could cause a pregnant animal to abort, so watch for any unusual discharge. This might also be a false pregnancy, idiopathic lactation (lactogenesis), mastitis or some other infection. I would suggest having your doe tested for CAE, & possibly tested to see if she is developing mastitis. Your veterinarian can do this for you very easily. Yes - the hardness and difficulty to express milk are typical signs of mastitis and she will require urgent veterinary treatment in order to prevent long term damage. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory injections are generally both required but vary on the different types of mastitis (taking a milk sample to your vet is very helpful to determine this); regular emptying of the affected milk also reduces the burden of infection. You may need to bottle feed the kids if both mammary glands are affected or they are anxious and hungry

IT is possible your cow has mastitis. This is inflammation of the mammary gland. Mastitis can be mild or severe with a deep infection. Try to keep the teats as clean as possible. I would recommend trying to encourage the calf to nurse from the inflamed mammary gland or milk that teat often. IF the cows udder starts turning color, patient develops a fever or starts not feeling well I would recommend calling a vet for a good exam and possible antibiotics

If only one teat is enlarged and she is not eating properly there is an underlying problem that needs to be addressed. Pregnancy toxemia is very likely but your vet will need to see her to get a diagnosis. This can be a very serious issue that can lead to death if not treated properly. Hi there. Thiamine deficiency doesn't typically resolve that rapidly, so they is unlikely to be the cause. It does sound like she may have mastitis as this will cause a firm, swollen udder. If your goat is on a balanced diet of high quality grass hay, you shouldn't need to supplement with anything. Hello. Honestly, these look like aberrant mammary glands. You may want to have your vet take a look at this in case removal is necessary. It is impossible to tell if these will develop as normal mammary glands or if they are even functional, but I would imagine that if they did develop as functional glands, it would be very difficult for this animal to manage.
