Horse has new white spots on nose. Are they serious or contagious?

There is no way to know what is going on here just by looking at some photos. Many skin diseases look similar so some testing will likely need to be done to figure out what is going on here. Some possibilities: 1. rain rot 2. staph bacterial infection 3. ringworm 4. autoimmune disease 5. injury/trauma I suggest you get your vet out to examine her. I would have that checked out by a vet. This lesion is concerning for certain fungal and parasitic lesions that can get much worse if left too long. I also worry about skin cancer in white-faced dogs, so it will be good to have this ruled-out as a potential cause. No need to panic, just get it checked out in a day or two. For now, you can keep the wound clean by blotting it with a cloth soaked in warm water. Do this twice a day and avoid scrubbing.

It could be a mild bacterial infection or it could be the start of ringworm (less likely if she is an indoor only cat). The other thing that can happen, especially in white cats, is skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma). I think it would be best for you to have Chloe examined by your vet to be sure.

The 2 possibilities are viral Papilloma, which is contagious and likes to be on the face but more so the mouth. Dogs get it from playing with other dogs at the park or from Doggie Daycare. Papillomas are white to grey and look warty. They tend to resolve with time. The other possibility is a benign histiocytoma. They are growths that appear on young dogs that spontaneously go away with in a few months. They tend to be pink and hairless, like a button. I hope this helps! Yes, you should call your vet out. Any cough and nasal discharge should be treated right away as it could turn chronic without treatment. Your horse likely has an infection and will require antibiotics and cough medicine.

Those two spots look like ingrown hairs or perhaps infected pores. Generally these lesions are benign and will go away on their own. You can try washing them daily and rinsing them well or your vet may carry some medicated wipes. Because they are on the muzzle topical ointments generally aren’t a good idea as the dogs will lick them off. Make sure to keep the food bowls cleaned on a weekly basis as well as any chew toys. This looks like a localized area of infection. This could be caused by an allergy, by her rubbing her nose against something (like a fence or crate) or could be a sign of an underlying autoimmune disease like lupus or pemphigus. I would recommend taking Bambi in to the vet to be examined. Your vet may recommend antibiotics and a topical ointment to help the nose clear up. Your vet may also recommend doing a cytology or biopsy of the area which will help further determine what the cause of the lesions are. I hope this helps.
