What's this sore, crusty lump on my horse's leg near its hoof?

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Horse | Male | neutered | 9 years and 6 months old | 1500 lbs

Hi , my horse has a lump on his leg near his hoof ... it’s solid , been there a while and no signs of it going .... it’s sore for him as he won’t let me touch it , it’s crusty He’s got mud fever but this appeared a while before he got that Thanks

This looks like the result of a chronic trauma or infection creating a proliferative skin inflammation (that is why it looks like a lump).
A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem.
Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths.
