Dr. Shelly Ferris is a dedicated veterinarian with over 20 years of experience in both equine and small animal medicine. She began her career as an equine practitioner before transitioning to small animal care, where her passion for medical excellence and team leadership flourished.
Over the years, she has served in progressive leadership roles—including Coach Doctor, Lead Doctor, Chief of Staff, Area Chief of Staff, Regional Medical Director, and now Chief Veterinarian at Petco.
Dr. Ferris has a deep enthusiasm for veterinary ultrasound, surgery, client communication, and leadership development. She previously taught ultrasound in monthly training clinics and is certified in FRANK Communication, helping elevate communication standards across veterinary teams.
Known for her ability to build strong, collaborative teams, she is equally skilled in conflict management and fostering a culture centered on the human–animal bond.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Ferris enjoys life in San Diego with her husband, their adult children, and their beloved pets—Marley, a spirited mutt, and George George, a curious Russian tortoise. She finds balance through time spent at the beach, visiting Hawaii, and wake surfing or paddleboarding on the Colorado River.
