My unspayed rabbit has red stains in her litter box. Is she okay?

It is possible your bunny has a urinary tract infection (red urine and urinary accidents can both be seen with this condition). Another possibility would be a bladder stone or tumor. Your bunny should see a veterinarian to check her urine, and start an antibiotic if needed or have an x-ray if no sign of infection is seen in the urine.

It isn't normal at all and is probably a sign of a severe gastrointestinal infection, unless you are mistaking and it's actually coming from the urinary tract, in that case it could be a urinary infection. either way it needs to be treated urgently, you need to take her to the vet ASAP in order to get it treated.

These signs might be compatible with a urinary tract infection/inflammation. These signs must be checked as soon as possible as urinary tract infection can be dangerous in rabbits as can lead to stress and degenerate to more systemic signs. The first thing I would want to find is if the urine really has blood in it. Rabbit's urine can often look like it has blood in it, because they excrete a certain pigment (porphyrins) in the urine. This can be due to a diet high in carotenoids (carrots, mango, papaya, other orange fruits and vegetables) and stress. Blood in urine can also be a sign of infection. The best thing you can do is get the urine tested by a veterinarian. If Thunder otherwise seems fine, then it would be OK to wait a day or two and see if the urine does not look like it has blood anymore. Keep in mind that a rabbit's diet should be mostly grass and hay. Fruits and vegetables should be less than 10% of their diet. Also make sure that Thunder has a bowl of clean water available at all times.

Your rabbit has likely got a case of cystitis which is bladder inflammation. If you go to tge vet they can give you antibiotics and antinflammatories to treat it. If it has been going on a while there is a chance that infection has gone up to the kidneys which is more serious.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Bunny urine usually oxidizes the longer it is exposed to air, so it is normal for it to turn a shade of orange-pink as in the photo. However, if you notice she is urinating in unusual spots, or if she is acting off or eating or pooping less, then I would recommend seeking veterinary attention. It may be related to a urinary tract infection, bladder stones or crystals. In the meantime, ensure that Rose drinks plenty of water which will keep her urinating and flushing out any infection or crystals out of her bladder. You can do this by providing her usual green leafy veggies soaked in water for a few minutes before giving them to her. I hope this helps, and that Rose is well!

Unspayed female rabbits are at a very high risk of cancer of the uterus, so I would be very worried about that as a possibility for the weight loss. The muddy urine could also be due to high calcium in her diet leading to calcium build-up in the urine. This can cause rabbits to have sludgy urine. It is important to get this checked right away. Your vet will try to empty out the bladder, increase the fluid intake, and get a better diet that is lower in calcium. I would suggest having her seen by your vet and discuss her diet, get a urine sample, and check out her uterus. Best of luck with Ms. Bunny.
