Is it safe for guinea pigs to chew printed boxes in their cage?

I think that it is valid that you have concerns about your guinea pigs. There are always risks of intestinal obstruction when animals eat their bedding, and if this started when you switched the bedding, I would recommend switching it back. Also, make sure they have plenty of fiber around, including lots of hay. If you would like to add something into the cage for them to chew on, cardboard boxes with no labels or tape work great! Those things should be safe to chew on as long as they are clean. Egg carton should not be treated with any stains or chemicals. T-shirts need to be clean, a concern would be if they chew and ingest. Popsicle sticks should be fine. Newspapers generally use non-toxic inks but can possibly stain fur if gets wet and on the fur. Good luck.

Paper bedding such as Carefresh bedding or this type is currently recommended. There would be no greater issue with them ingesting the paper bedding versus the wood shavings bedding, as the paper bedding would actually be more easily digested (as paper is actually a product made from broken down wood!). The paper is more expensive but has less risk of causing wounds (occasionally the wood shavings can have sharp pieces and cause injury to the skin or eyes or mouth) and less risk of dust or other irritants to the respiratory tract.

They can chew on cardboard as long as they don't ingested large quantities. Offer rabbit safe wooden chew toys as well. Their teeth are constantly growing, so they need to chew to keep them at an appropriate length.

I would not recommend it. The fact that they are whole grain products and processed rules them out. It is not recommended for guinea pigs to eat grains or processed foods at all. It depends on who you ask. The cones don't have as much of the aromatic oils that shavings have in them. Owners who do choose to offer pine cones will wash them in hot water then bake them in an oven at low temp to dry them out, evaporate any residual oils and to kill bacteria/fungus. If the toy was made specifically for guinea pigs, it is likely fine. If you are still concerned, remove and discard the cone part of the toy or remove the entire toy. Monitor for lethargy, decreased appetite or loose stool.
