My rat has a testicle cut/scab, but no pain. Should I see a vet?

It looks like roddy has a small scratch on the back. At this time I would recommend monitoring it from home. If you notice any discharge, smell or redness I would recommend taking him to a vet to have it examined. I hope that helps

If you could re post this question with a picture of the lesion, it would be helpful in determining a possible diagnosis. While whatever it is may not be bothering him, it is typically better to verify there is no ulceration to the corneal surface or holes on the eye. The vet will be able to do a simple staining diagnostic to see if this is occurring. This would be my advise as a good place to start.

When I see patients like this the first thing I do is a skin scrape to check for residual parasites like mites (which I suspect here) If none are found, often I will do a culture to make sure no resistant bacteria or fungi (like ringworm-another possibility high in the list) infect the skin, and if so what kind. Thank you for attaching pictures! It is very helpful to us. The "blood" that you are seeing is likely a secretion called porphyrin...it can be released due to stress or illness. This cannot be completely assessed just by looking at pictures and usually requires sampling such as fine needle aspiration to determine its origin. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. So sorry the Sushi is having this issue. It is very hard to tell from the photo exactly what is going on. What I think I can see is that the area is not overly red or swollen. If that is the case and he is eating and drinking and acting normally I would not be concerned at this point. I would only be worried if the area gets swollen or if he starts to feel sick (not eating, extreme lethargy, vomiting, etc). You are welcome to apply a thin layer of Neosporin to that area twice a day until healed. If not real resolution of the this wound after a week then I would say he needs to see your vet. Hello. I do not think this requires a veterinary visit. Clean this once or twice a day with a skin antiseptic like Hibiclens ( available in all pharmacies ) & dab the wound with just a tiny bit of triple antibiotic. If this does not heal in 10-14 days, do see your vet. Rats are prone to developing tumors, so you should have a non-healing wound looked at. But if it appears to be healing with this treatment, it is very unlikely to be worrisome. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Shiloh! It is hard to see the entire lesion from your pictures. I can't tell if it is raised like a mass or flat. If in person it is raised then I would have it looked at by a Vet in person. If it is flat you can treat it like an abrasion, wound, or infection with topical cream and if it doesn't improve in a week have him seen or sooner if it worsens. i wish Shiloh a speedy recovery!
