Can my pet rat safely eat pasta as an occasional treat or snack?

Hello. I would put allow enough feed so that most is consumed in a 24 hour period. Leaving more out will just allow for potential contamination with soiled bedding. Rats can eat a wide variety of fruits, veggies & grains. There should be no problem with the macaroni other that too much will cause them to eat less nutritious foods. Hello. The majority of the diet ( 80% ) should be a rodent chow like Oxbow. The chow should be around 16% protein & 4-5% fat. Fruits & veggies can be offered at about 1 teaspoon per day. You can also offer a reasonable amount of nuts & seeds, also about 1 teaspoon per day. Vary the treats each day & Pika will be a happy, healthy girl. Pasta is not toxic to dogs, but it is also not a particularly nutritionally dense food and would be an empty source of calories like a treat. If Sharon has any food intolerance or a sensitive stomach I would not recommend it.

Thanks for reaching out about Peach. Rawhide bones should be safe for rats, as they are omnivores similar to dogs. You should provide small pieces to chew on as not not upset their gastrointestinal tract. Be careful as rat teeth are smaller and thin, and might fracture easier. Good luck.

Neither pasta nor coconut is detrimental for your puppy, however you should not use these as your' puppy's regular food. Your puppy needs a complete puppy food for large dogs. If you feed coconut, it should be shredded, and not in pieces as it could cause an intestinal blockage. And if you feed pasta, make sure there is no onion in the pasta, and just add it to his normal food as a treat.

You can feed commercial rodent food. It typically comes in a block or pellet form. Rats are omnivorous and will eat just about anything though. Supplement with fresh vegetables and small amounts of fruits. Ideally, if it is not injured, you should set it free. Oxbow, Mazuri and Kaytee all make excellent rat chow. Being omnivorous, they can eat almost anything. They should eat mainly a pelleted or block diet supplemented with fresh fruits, greens and vegetables.
