My 10-week-old rabbit has one swollen eye. Should I go to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed

My 10wks old rabbit eyelid has been swollen since yesterday and I don’t want to go to the vet if it’s not necessary. Do you know what I should buy or do for it or if it is normal and not that big of a deal? And by the way it’s only one eye and my rabbit can open it a little bit.

Hi, and thanks for your question.
That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
